The word ‘biodiversity’ defines the variety of life on earth, but in its broader sense it is the reason life exists because in the living planet nothing can exist on its own
India is just 2 percent of the world land mass but 8 percent of the world’s biodiversity is found in the country.
Lion was India’s national animal till 1972. In 1973, tiger was re-notified as India’s national animal.
Snow leopards are found at altitudes between 9,800 and 17,000 feet in the high, rugged mountains of Central Asia.
Their range spans from Afghanistan to Kazakstan and Russia in the north to India and China in the east. China contains about 60% of snow leopard habitat.
